We Are Nuts… For This Recipe!
We are proud that our original vision from 1989, of a Canadian, small-town, family-owned, nut and seed butter manufacturer, remains intact today. Located in Brantford, Ontario, Nuts to You produces a wide variety of butters with no added salt, sugar or hydrogenated oil, creating a simple, tasty alternative for everyone. Our focus from the beginning on organic has allowed us the satisfaction of knowing we are one of the few originals remaining in the North American market today.
We began purchasing organic hard-shell almonds from Europe. We fell in love with their rustic, old-world varieties, such as Genco, Filippo Cea, Valencia, Marcona and Vinciattutti. They are distinctive in flavour, size, and shape from the California soft-shell varieties.
These almonds come from two areas, Spain and Italy. We started our buying with the agricultural co-ops in southern Spain. Next, we discovered Sicilian organic almonds (introduced to Sicily from Greece in the 5th century!). Combined, they create a wonderful bold, robust flavour, differentiating our Organic Almond Butter from many others out there.
Almonds are rich in calcium, iron, fibre, essential fats and protein, and are non-GMO and gluten free. European organic growers and producers do not need to pasteurize their almonds for shipping to Canada. We are happy to support the dry-farming traditional production methods of Europe as well as the Slow Food Movement. Hazelnuts, also known as filberts, taste rich, exotic and naturally sweet. Our organic hazelnuts are grown in Turkey. Full of nutrients, hazelnuts are a good source of protein, fibre, calcium, iron and essential fat, and a rich source of antioxidants. They’re also non-GMO and gluten free, and they make a unique and distinctive tasting nut butter.
Hazelnut No-Churn Ice Cream
2 cups 35% whipping cream (heavy cream)
1 cup sweetened condensed milk
½ cup Nuts to You Organic Hazelnut Butter (Nuts to You Organic Almond Hazelnut Butter would be a good substitute)
¼ cup cocoa powder
Pinch of salt
- A metal loaf pan is the perfect size container for the ice cream, but a large glass or plastic container also works. Line with parchment paper, if desired.
- Whip the heavy cream with a hand or stand mixer until stiff peaks form. Gently fold in the sweetened condensed milk until smooth.
- Pour half the cream mixture into another bowl and add the Hazelnut Butter, cocoa and salt. Mix until combined.
- Pour contents of the bowl back into the cream mixture and fold a few times to create a marbled effect. Pour the mixture into container. Freeze for 6 hours or overnight.
- Cover with a lid or beeswax wrap to store.
From day one, we have tried to put our best foot forward with regards to the environment. First, we began making organic products for the marketplace, our product priority since 1989, and we continue to add organic alternatives to our product mix. Organic Almond Hazelnut and Organic Hazelnut butter are two of our newest introductions. For the organic grower, good healthy soil is the number one priority. Then come good water, healthy raw materials, and safe working conditions for the growers and their families.
Second, our butters are packaged in glass jars with metal caps and shipped in cardboard cartons. We have refused to use plastic jars, caps, and internal liners, although they are a cheaper alternative. Seeing the growing concern about plastic in our oceans, waterways, and landfills, we hope we have been part of the solution and not the problem.
