Probiotics and your health
Probiotics are among the most dynamic sectors of the wellness industry. We ‘re pioneers in probiotic supplementation with a history exceeding 30 years and now boasting a family of products with therapeutic niches that span from daily maintenance, immune support, IBS relief, female intimate flora restoration, protection from traveler’s sickness and industry leading dosage and diversity for recovery from frequent antibiotic use to name a few.
Strain selection and potency are two critical factors for product development. Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium are the two most dominant and scientifically researched genera (groups) of probiotics, they populate the ingredient deck of our entire line of probiotics. Many of these beneficial stains multi-task which accounts for their dominance in a particular product or existence in a supporting role for another. These beneficial strains are originally isolated from dairy, human and plant sources. Dairy sourced strains are instrumental in digestion and the establishment of the ideal acidity within the intestines for colony forming of beneficial strains and suppression of opportunistic yeast overgrowth and infection. Plant sourced species such as Lactobacillus plantarum deter growth of harmful bacteria. Human sourced strains, originally isolated from the end stage intestinal flora of healthy persons are key components of many of our formulas as they are proven to thrive throughout the intestines.
Two plant sourced prebiotics extracted from chicory root and larch are featured in our comprehensive probiotic formulas as fuel for probiotic colony growth primarily within the colon. The colon has the highest concentration and diversity of probiotics, this give them a jump start in this highly competitive environment.
What also remains critically important is the actual number of probiotics that survive harsh stomach acids to make a measurable impact for your health. Our probiotics are protected with a natural water based enteric coating which includes red palm fruit oil sourced medium chain triglycerides and algae sourced sodium alginate. This safeguards the capsules and their contents from harsh stomach acids for selective release within the intestines.
We have tested the integrity of our enteric coated capsules versus non-enteric coated probiotics in a simulated gastric environment with and without food. Results from our industry leading ISO 17025 accredited analytical laboratory have proven conclusively that enteric protection is crucial for probiotic survival and growth. The ISO 17025 standard is an international accreditation for competence of testing and analytical equipment calibration. This standard ensures our testing methods are impartial and replicable by other accredited laboratories worldwide.
