Essential Oils/Aromatherapy, for Everyday Use

Although Essential Oils (EO) have been used for centuries in therapy and as disinfectants, deodorizers and powerful preservatives (mummification),  with the passing of time we have lost the application of these volatile oils in everyday life.  Thankfully, over the past fifty years, there has been a global resurgence in the use of essential oils, with North America currently experiencing unparalleled interest in their use and efficacy.

The word “Aromatherapy” was coined by the French chemist Rene Maurice Gattefossé.  Working in a perfume house in Paris in the early 20th century, an explosion in the factory resulted in serious wounds to his hands.  In his words; “both my hands were covered with a rapidly developing gas gangrene. Just one rinse with lavender essence stopped the gasification of the tissue” (lavender is the only essential oil that is safe to apply directly on the skin without the use of a carrier oil, e.g. almond, avocado, apricot etc.)  The rebirth of essential oils in the 20th century and beyond began with Gattefossé.

The application of essential oils is nearly infinite. From replacing toxic cleaning products, using them as air fresheners in your home, to applying them to your bath with the help of a carrier oil, they are a safe and effective alternative to conventional options.  As an alternative to synthetic perfumes, pure plant oils are ideal.  Combining Patchouli, Ylang Ylang and Orange Oil will offer you a blend of EOs that will rival any commercial perfume in quality, scent and efficacy.  Efficacy? Why, you may ask?  These oils, and in particular Ylang Ylang, are known for their aphrodisiac qualities.   Whomever it is that you would like to attract, simply try NOW®’s blend “Power to the Flowers”.  The results?  You be the judge!
