Naturopathic Medicine is a form of primary health care that utilizes natural, traditional and scientific knowledge to treat and prevent disease. The goal of Naturopathic Medicine is to address the root cause of an illness and help people achieve optimal wellness. Naturopathic Doctors use natural therapies (including botanicals, acupuncture, homeopathy and nutrition) to stimulate a person’s own healing ability. With the belief that every person’s health is unique, Naturopathic Medicine provides individualized care that encompasses a person’s physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
Naturopathic Doctors have been regulated in Ontario since 1925. Some of it’s therapies though, have been around for thousands of years including acupuncture and hydrotherapy. With its ancient roots, Naturopathic Medicine takes a progressive patient-centred approach. Naturopathic Doctors believe that a person has control of their own personal health and wellness and the role of a doctor is to empower and support them.
